If variety is the spice of life, then the variety of partial dentures is the spice of dentistry. After you have one or more sequential teeth extracted, something must fill that location. The replacement, called a partial denture, restores functionality and stops the teeth above and next to the gap from shifting.
Elias Prosthodontics expertly diagnoses issues and provides treatment to maintain excellent oral health. We prioritize our patients’ care and comfort while taking plenty of time to address their concerns and treatment options.
Most removable partial dentures stay in place with clasps that connect to surrounding natural teeth; they come in varying types and materials. Here’s a rundown of three of them.
Cast Metal
This, the most prevalent type, has a Wironium (a proprietary nickel-free cobalt-chrome alloy) or titanium-cast metal framework. The high-quality resin teeth, gum-colored acrylic that’s attached to the base and precision attachments are visually flattering. Metal clasps hold them in place. Its precise and comfortable fit makes it easy to wear for its lifespan of seven to 10 years.
Acrylic
It is made of durable acrylic that conforms to your pallet (like a retainer for braces). As the least costly partial denture, it has disadvantages. The acrylic casts are less dependable than the cast metals, and some wearers think its shape is unattractive and not all that comfortable. An acrylic is largely thought of as a temporary solution.
Flexible
A flexible, also thought of as a temporary option, might be a good fit if you’re allergic to acrylic. Additional advantages are that it’s very comfy, and the gum-colored clasps are less visible. But it’s more costly compared to other partials.
